Professional dental hygiene by English speaking dentist in Prague

Dental hygiene

Professional dental hygiene is the foundation of long-term oral health. Even with thorough daily brushing and home care, dental plaque and tartar gradually accumulate on the teeth and cannot be completely removed with a regular toothbrush. Regular dental hygiene appointments help prevent tooth decay, gum inflammation, periodontal disease, and bad breath.

Regular dental hygiene helps to:

  • prevent tooth decay,
  • reduce the risk of gum inflammation and periodontal disease,
  • remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains,
  • improve breath and overall oral hygiene,
  • protect teeth, dental implants, crowns, and bridges,
  • reduce the need for more extensive and costly dental treatment in the future.

What does a dental hygiene appointment involve?

Each treatment is tailored to the individual needs of the patient and typically includes:

  • Examination of the oral cavity Assessment of the condition of the teeth, gums, and the patient's oral hygiene routine.
  • Tartar removal – Using ultrasonic technology and specialized hand instruments, we gently remove tartar above and below the gum line.
  • AirFlow – A modern method of removing stains and soft plaque using a fine powder and a stream of water. Effectively removes discoloration caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking.
  • Teeth polishing – After the treatment, the tooth surfaces are thoroughly polished, helping to slow down the re-accumulation of dental plaque.
  • Oral hygiene instructions – We will recommend suitable oral hygiene products and teach you the correct techniques for brushing your teeth, cleaning between your teeth, and caring for dental implants.

For most patients, we recommend professional dental hygiene every 6 months. The recommended interval between appointments is always determined individually based on the current condition of your oral health.

Tooth Remineralization Therapy

Tooth remineralization therapy is not a standard part of a dental hygiene appointment. It is provided upon the patient's request or on the recommendation of the dental hygienist or dentist.
This is a modern treatment in which special mineral-rich formulations are applied to the surface of the teeth to help restore and strengthen tooth enamel.

Tooth remineralization therapy helps to:

  • strengthen weakened tooth enamel,
  • reduce tooth sensitivity to cold, heat, and sweet foods or drinks,
  • support the natural remineralization of tooth enamel,
  • slow the progression of early tooth decay,
  • protect teeth from the harmful effects of acids and bacteria.
